Restorative yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing typically just a five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest, in the course of an hour. It is a completely different experience than most contemporary yoga. Each pose is typically held for 5 minutes or more, and include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends. Most restorative practices are based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar.
